Basic Info
Name:Raphael Avellanos-Durán de Orrego
Bio

Name: Raphael Avellanos-Durán de Orrego
Age: 17
Birthday: January 21st, 1990
Height: 167 cm
Weight: 52 kg
Homeroom: 1-1
Rank: 9
Visible Markings: Ear piercings! --aka holes in earlobes, but the actual earrings are usually lying around in his dorm, and he only wears them to class if he forgets to take them off.

Appearance:
Surprisingly enough, Raphael appears to be a good bit Asian for someone with a full-fledged Spanish name—one would expect him to be less, well...Asian. However, the truth is that he’s at least half Japanese. Although no one really knows for sure, it’s probably safe to assume from looks alone that he’s not very much mix-blooded, unless it’s some kind of Japanese/other-Asian mix. He tends to slouch and plays around with make-up occasionally, though not always in front of others, and always has a somewhat annoyed, disheveled look about him.

History:
Raphael’s mother, a delicate, frail-looking Japanese woman, appeared at the doorsteps of the city hospital one day. She gave a name but no ID—and after she gave birth to him there, vanished as soon as she presumably was able to. Despite several attempts to track her down, the hospital and officials could not find her or any family members tied to her alleged name. Raphael was given to an orphanage and was soon adopted by a well-to-do Spanish family that had been living in California for several generations.

His foster parents, determined to give their son a varied education even though he was not direct blood, started Raphael on academics early, also introducing him to art and music as well as several “kiddy” sports. They were surprised—shocked, even—when his violin tutor came to them with news soon after his lessons began: Raphael was a musical prodigy.

Within the year, he had improved greatly, soaking up new songs and techniques at a phenomenal pace. By the time he was seven, he’d studied Mozart and Lalo; by the time he was nine, Sibelius. He performed and competed against much older violinists. Raphael’s parents, having researched into the mind of the child prodigy, encouraged him to branch out and try different things, but still his music took time away from his academics and he fell a year behind in school.

Then he turned fifteen.

For some inexplicable reason, perhaps due to unspoken or subconscious emotions, Raphael suddenly couldn’t do it anymore. Whether the music stopped coming to him or he had come up against a mental roadblock, no one knew why—he simply couldn’t play anymore.

Distressed, he spent some time trying to relearn everything that he had lost. As the prodigy who never had any problems learning music as long as he worked as hard as he could, Raphael was frustrated when he discovered that his best wasn’t enough anymore. Up until then, nothing had been out of his league and, unable to deal with this failure, he gave it all up. He quit.

Raphael spent another year messing around at his school and being a general “behavioral problem” (as his teachers tended to put it), until he was finally expelled. His foster parents covered managed to cover this up, though it took a lot of convincing and even more money. The next year, Raphael enrolled at Second Heaven with his parents’ encouragement.

Personality:
Proud, with a tendency to snap at the people around him, especially when stressed or irritated. Raphael sometimes seems edgy and tense, worse so when he is in a bad mood -- there are times when he appears to be on the verge of biting someone’s head off. He wants nothing to do with Second Heaven, and it shows; the school reminds me of why he is where he is in the first place—mainly because his talent “abandoned him” when he’d done nothing to wrong it.

He believes that his violin-playing was the only thing that set him apart from everyone else and has been attempting to convince himself that there’s nothing wrong with being just like all the other kids. At the same time, probably because of conflicting feelings and despite the fact that he acts like he doesn’t care about things and especially people, Raphael is desperately afraid of being forgotten or ignored due to being “no one special.”
